Saigon Station is a large railway station of the whole country, located in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, about 1 km from the city center. Saigon Station is the last station on the North-South railway line, the end point of Vietnam railway.
Located at the end of the journey on the trans-Vietnam railway, Saigon station was the first construction started by the French when the 71km-long Saigon - My Tho railway was built in 1881 and completed in 1885.
This is one of the most important focal stations on the North-South railway route because it is the main station of the Southern region to the provinces of Central and Northern Vietnam.
Since early 2007, the station has adopted online ticketing, which has helped reduce inconvenience for passengers.

From 1976 to 1977 Saigon Station operated near Quach Thi Trang roundabout, near Ben Thanh market.
In 1978, the policy of refurbishing urban planning of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Sai Gon station moved to Binh Trieu station in Thu Duc district, at the same time upgrading and repairing Hoa Hung old cargo station to into Saigon passenger station.
In November 1983, Saigon Station officially went into operation. With an area of 40,000 m2, it quickly regained the position, name and sentiment of the Southern people, especially passengers traveling to the Nam Bac train.
Not only is the modern look of a station in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon station is also a vivid witness of the history of Vietnam's railway development.
The South was completely liberated, on November 14, 1975, the Government decided to restore the North-South railway after 30 years of interruption. For more than a year, the State and our people have gathered human and material resources to complete the communication on December 31, 1976.
